Concert Photography Music

Background:
Several years ago I found myself reconnecting with music, playing more and going to hear more. As a result, another old hobby got rekindled. In high school and college, I hauled around a barely usable East German 35 mm Practica camera. At the time, I was also writing reviews for an "underground" music rag, the staff of which morphed onward to revive Crawdaddy! (I was sixteen at the time and my daughter swears that the film Almost Famous is really MY biography...) The folks on staff liked my concert photographs so I kept at it, getting shots of the Doors, Hendrix, etc.

I'd forgotten how much fun it was but remembered immediately once I took an Olympus Camedia to a Flecktones show. More than one person has asked if photographing a show didn't take away from my enjoyment of it. For me, it's quite the opposite. As someone who plays music, I find shooting a show the next best thing to "sitting in" - it's completely engaging and I feel the same physical high that I experience when I play. My photos have made their way on or into Glide Magazine, NJN's State of the Arts, the Washingtonian, MIT's Computer Music Journal, Highlights for Children and several artists' websites. I'm happy to let people use them for a photo credit.
